Florida Unemployment Offices
From LoveToKnow Jobs
Florida unemployment offices are known as "One-stop Career Centers." They have computers available so that you can file for unemployment benefits electronically. Unemployed people are also required to register for work in order to qualify to receive benefits.
Government funds provide financial support to keep the offices open. The federal government collects unemployment taxes from employers for this purpose. The unemployment offices offer other services to residents of the state who are either unemployed or looking for better-paying work.
Unemployment Benefits in Florida
To qualify for benefits in the State, you must have worked for in Florida for at least two calendar quarters and have earned at least $3,400 during that time. If you meet the monetary requirement, the reason why you left your last place of employment will be considered. If you quit your job or were dismissed for misconduct, you may not be eligible for benefits.
In order to be paid any benefits, you must be able to work, available for work, and actively looking for another job. While you are looking for work, you must keep a record of your job search activities and file a form listing your job contacts with the Unemployment Office.
If you lose your job, it's important that you file for benefits right away. Failing to do so may mean that you will lose out on getting paid, since unemployment benefits cannot be paid retroactively. You have the right to cancel your claim within 20 days of filing, as long as you haven't received any benefits.
