Nepal Jobs

From LoveToKnow Jobs

Nepal jobs aren't likely to be glamorous or easy to come by, since more than 13 million of the country's people live in poverty.

Find a job in Nepal

Land locked, mountainous, packed with an eclectic group of 26 million inhabitants, and barely larger than North Carolina, Nepal is a poor country located between India and China. However, it does attract tourists who gather to take in the wildlife, the architecture, and the culture.

According to Nepal Vista, the primary sources of income in the country are, "tourism, agriculture, and Nepalese laborers working in foreign countries."

Where to Find Nepal Jobs

  • Jobs Nepal lists the job title, company, number of openings, type of position, post date, and deadline to apply. You can find everything from architect positions to sales, temporary jobs to full-time permanent work. Search by job type, city, and more.
  • Jobs Abroad will show you Nepal jobs that are available at any given time. If that doesn't help you find your next place of employment, check out the Study Abroad, Intern Abroad, Volunteer Abroad, and Teach Abroad tabs.

No matter what your position, your wages are likely to be low living in Nepal. However, the cost of living is very low (read more at Travel Puppy), so you will have to weigh the pros and cons and determine how the situation fits your life.

What Can You Do in Nepal?

As mentioned above, the primary sources of income for the Nepalese people include agriculture, tourism, and working in other countries. That sounds restrictive, but there are some other options to consider.

Cruise Ship Jobs

One of the ways to make your living in Nepal is to work in other countries—that includes working on cruise ships. Cruiselines Jobs has a list of opportunities for Nepalese workers. This may be one of the best options when it comes to Nepal jobs, especially if you don't have a tourist-related business.

ESL Jobs

Want to teach English as a second language to students in Nepal? There are three ESL schools that offer up Nepal jobs for grabs. There's the Kathmandu International Study Centre, the Lincoln School, and the British School, Kathmandu.

Getting There and Getting Settled

In September 2007, the United States Department of State issued a warning against traveling to Nepal due to terrorism and other crimes committed for political reasons. For more information on travel warnings, check the Travel.State.Gov website.

The travel registration page is for U.S. citizens who plan to travel to or live in Nepal. This is where you provide information about your trip (in the case of an interview, for example) so that you may get emergency help from the Department of State if you need it. Already living in Nepal? You can get updates from the embassy.

Overall, if you do not have to move to Nepal and you are from the United States, your safest bet would be to avoid the area and seek employment elsewhere.

A visa is required for any visitor to Nepal. Anywork Anywhere has more information about the visas, though they recommend contacting your nearest embassy or consulate of Nepal.

Proceed with Caution

If you choose to look for Nepal jobs and you find just what you're looking for online, be wary! As with all job searches, research the company you're considering first. Don't just jump on a plane to interview. Make sure the company is legitimate and not a scam.

Put in the company's name on a Google search, then follow with "scam." Sometimes that's all you need to find out that what seems to be your dream job may be exactly the opposite.

Be especially cautious if the company contacts you. Unless you have exceptionally strong qualifications in a particular industry, this is a solid indicator of an employment scam.
