Target Job Applications

From LoveToKnow Jobs

Completing a Target job application is the first step you need to to take if you'd like an opportunity to begin a successful career with the popular retail chain. Detailed information about how to apply for a job with target is provided under the "Submitting Target Job Applications" heading below.

About Target

The first Target store was built in 1962 in Roseville, Minnesota. By 2008, that number had grown to more than 1,500 stores in every state but Vermont, Alaska and Hawaii. This number includes 210 SuperTarget locations offering a full line of groceries in addition to the stores' usual fare. The company also offers online sales through Target.com. Other divisions include Target Financial Services, Target India and Target Commercial Interiors. The company's corporate headquarters are located in Minneapolis.

Target aims to provide the feel of a department store with the prices of a discount retailer. This goal can be seen in its partnerships with designers like Isaac Mizrahi, Liz Lange and Michael Graves to provide unique merchandise to its customers. Speaking of design, the red bulls-eye is perhaps the most famous aspect of the retailer's style. A company survey found that 96% of consumers recognized the distinctive emblem.

In an effort to give back to its customers, the company donates five percent of all profits to community organizations in addition to encouraging a spirit of volunteerism among employees. To help stores produce less of an environmental impact, the company also employs programs to reduce waste and increase energy efficiency.

Career Opportunities

Target job applications can lead to seasonal employment or a lifelong career, with full and part-time positions available. Whether you're interested in providing back-room merchandising support or working one-on-one with customers, there's a position that could be perfect for you.

Store Employment

In-store hourly positions cover numerous job titles that work directly with customers:

  • Asset protection
  • Baker and cake decorator
  • Cart attendant
  • Fitting room attendant
  • Food service
  • Grocery sales
  • Guest services
  • Pharmacist and pharmacy technician
  • Photo lab worker
  • Sales floor
  • Team leader

Other positions that don't necessarily involve dealing with customers but are vital to the success of each store include:

  • Assets protection
  • Building services
  • Cash office
  • Clerical
  • Human resources
  • Logistics
  • Presentation and signing
  • Price accuracy

Corporate Employment

Employment at the corporate level includes opportunities in several different areas:

  • Administrative support
  • Advertising and marketing
  • Assets protection
  • Design and development of products and interiors
  • Employment with related divisions like Target.com
  • Finance and accounting
  • Financial services
  • Food services, including development and quality assurance
  • Human resources
  • Information technology
  • Law
  • Merchandising
  • Property design and management
  • Pharmacy
  • Store support
  • Supply chain management and logistics
  • Transportation
  • Vendor sourcing

Many of these corporate job divisions are similar to those available on the store level. However, they require more experience and education.

Internships

Internship opportunities are available at corporate headquarters, local stores and distribution centers. Supply chain and logistics internships are 12-week summer internships. While working at a distribution center, students receive training in distribution, learn more about the company's operations and develop leadership skills. Ten week in-store internships offer interns the opportunity to become familiar with every area of the store while also developing a special project and learning more about overall store operations. Those interested in a summer internship at headquarters can spend 10 weeks developing corporate strategies and taking advantage of valuable networking opportunities.

Submitting Target Job Applications

You can apply for jobs through the following methods:

  • If you're interested in hourly store employment, visit the employment kiosk at the front of the store at which you'd like to work.
  • If you would like to apply for employment at the corporate level, visit the company's online job search engine. Applicants create an online profile and search job listings. There are separate listings for professionals with two or more years of experience and college students and recent graduates. Internships are also included on the college-focused site. The site for college-level applicants also offers a helpful career exploration tool that matches job titles with college majors. College students can also take advantage of campus recruiting events.

Whether you're a human resources specialist, computer networking guru, or just an outgoing person looking to provide excellent customer service, with its diverse opportunities, Target is a company to keep in mind for your next job.
