In response to an increasing demand for telecommute employees, many companies now hire at-home workers. These companies permit or require workers to telecommute from an offsite work space, often with the understanding that employees must use their own computer connection and other equipment to perform their job duties.

1. 1-800-Flowers

During high-volume times, such as Mother's Day and Valentine's Day, 1-800-Flowers hires work-at-home sales agents. Applicants must have a computer with a high-speed Internet connection, telephone and a headset. Applications should contain your name, email address and the state of your residence. 2. Accolade Support Call Centers

3. Admissions Consultants

Admissions Consultants hires college graduates and professionals for full and part-time positions advising college-bound students during their application process. 4. Aetna

Aetna hires proposal managers, consultants, account managers and case managers and permits them to work from home. Available job positions are found online and can be narrowed by those that permit telecommuting. Applications can be completed on the company's main website.

8. Hilton Hotels Call Center

Hilton Hotels chain allows reservations and customer care specialists to work from home. Applications can be completed online on the customer service open position listing website.

9. JetBlue

After an initial training period, JetBlue allows reservation agents to work from home. Applicants can be submitted online through the company's application wizard system, which is offered at the top of each job posting.

10. LexisNexis

LexisNexis hires work-from-home sales representatives and technical support agents. Employees typically spend one or two days a week at home and the remainder of the week they travel to client offices. Jobs are listed online, and resumes and cover letters can be submitted through the company's website.

11. Patch.com

Patch.com provides local news and event information to readers. It hires editors and reporters to detail the local happenings throughout the nation. Applications are submitted through the company's open job position postings.

12. PerkettPR

The Coding Network hires experienced medical coders for virtual positions. Applications can be submitted online and are accepted at all times regardless of whether an open position is posted.

Write On Results hires work-at-home writers to hand write thank you notes to customers. Customers include large non-profit agencies and businesses. Applicants can submit an email through the job site stating their interest.

Finding the Job for You

Work-at-home job opportunities continue to grow; however, ensure that the company you apply with is legitimate by investigating its background before agreeing to work with them. Also, know exactly what type of work you're applying for. Many at-home positions involve contract work rather than regular, full- or part-time work.
